Dollhouse: The Work and Play of Sharon May   Details and Dreams

Shopping bags left in haste? The eye is drawn to the rear, where a bust (see detail, right) blends into the shadows and the wall of the same color.

Just like a good novel that uses the telling detail to suggest a scene or a world, Sharon places telling details to suggest a room or world just outside of our view.

In these rooms, the eye sees peripherally - light from outdoors, down the hallway, through a door that's ajar. All ways of convincing you that you are in a place that is lived in and alive.

The golden dresser and chair alone couldn't give the sense of a room. But your mind interprets the whole from the rug, which leads the eye to the bed, which is next to the window or patio door that lets in natural light.

Another window letting natural light flood the room, bringing out the details.

Details - a candy jar, a lamp, a knick-knack, an open book. In the background - a holiday fireplace, rug, a candle. No false details to spoil the illusion.

Little bits of imperfection - just like real life; a wine glass left on a wash table.

A desk holds a holiday card (detail below). Note the brass handle on the clock.

A dessert stand next to an armchair. Beautiful wood floors and a rug fill in the setting realistically.

More shopping bags, and baskets on the kitchen chair. A green curtain flutters in the breeze - or is it someone's sleeve? Click the picture to find out and marvel at the detail.

Perfume bottles on a tray. The light cast by the lamp behind the bottles is perfectly scaled to trick your eye.
