What we do, client list, and portfolio

Building the Web sites that build your business. That's our business. ™

About Design
Harford New Media provides information-driven Web design.
We keep our design simple, clean, quick, and easy to use.
We don't waste your time or money - or your viewer's time.
We use photos because people prefer real life.
We don't use fancy buttons or "rainbow" menu bars.
We keep graphics small, tasteful, and to a minimum.
We test our sites to make sure they work.
We promote to search engines with generally good results.

About Domain Names and Web Hosting
We provide total domain name and Web hosting management for iron-clad security. Client security is foremost in our minds, so to guard against domain name thieves and to protect against shady Web hosting companies that try to get clients to switch services, we control all facets of domain renewal and Web hosting. In fact, we do it all or we won't do it.

About Cost
We use domain registrars and hosting services that aren't the cheapest because we're less concerned about margins and more concerned about quality and security. Our clients seem to agree with us: paying less is no bargain if it means putting your Web site at risk.

But enough about us. Here are some of our clients - all are available through their Web site e-mail. You're likely to find a project here that fits your size, requirements, and budget, so see how we've solved problems for these folks.

Harford County Chamber of Commerce

This site includes a membership directory and event calendars. We designed the Harford Chamber site that launched in December of 1998, and launched a revised version July 31, 2000 to reflect a new Chamber logo and leadership goals, and to incorporate a monthly online newsletter to replace the print version which reached all Harford businesses. After training from Harford New Media, the Chamber staff has given the site two makeovers and keeps the site updated. Chamber personnel are able to make changes to the site, especially to keep the membership directory up to date on a daily basis - a great member benefit. We continue to provide total domain and Web hosting management.
Harford County Association of Realtors

This site includes event calendars and other resources for member Realtors. We designed the original HCAR Web site in 1997, as well as a redesign in 2001. The current site debuted in early 2004 with a look that reflects a workspace for real estate professionals. Following training by Harford New Media, the HCAR staff makes changes to the site and has replaced a printed and mailed newsletter with an e-mail newsletter to save a significant amount of money in paper and postage costs. While the site is now wholly managed by HCAR staff, the core of the information design and appearance have been maintained.
Not-for-Profit and Foundation Web Sites
Liriodendron Mansion is an historic home, public arts gallery, concert venue, meeting facility, and wedding and reception location. Photos convey the romantic surroundings of the facility. Brides have booked weddings from as far away as Montana and Germany thanks to the extensive online photo and history tours - and the complete booking information.

Liriodendron's Museum Committee has attracted new attention and artist submissions for its gallery shows by using the Web site to display works by the artists. These online galleries are available after the shows have closed, giving the artists more exposure online.

We created the original Web site for the HEAT Center (Higher Education and Applied Technology Center). It has since been taken in-house as part of the Harford Community College Web site.

The HEAT Center's physical appearance is unusual for a public facility - and we tried to capture the feel of the building on the Web site so that students and visitors would already feel comfortable on their first visit.

The building designers used a wide range of materials and decor to define areas and give the space a human, at-home feel. Rest rooms have Victorian wallpaper and rich wood countertops. The elevator area has cool granite tiles lining the alcove. In a parallel fashion, we created backgrounds based on these images to define areas of the Web site. We even made one background using a slice of coconut cake from the on-campus catering facility. The resulting site is--alas, was--delicious!

Small Business Web Sites
We're proud that Cindy and Bob Isennock referred us to a competing auctioneer who liked her site (they have since sold their business). Jay Edwards and Associates specializes in real estate auctions. Photos of properties for auction are especially important, so we stress the visuals on Jay's site as we did on Cindy's. Both auctioneers developed extensive e-mail lists to notify prospective bidders of new auctions.

Results: Jay's business has expanded from $1.5 million in sales in 1999 to over $10 million in 2005. The reason? "It's the Web site!" says Jay.
The Bel Air Golf Center and Jay Perkins Teaching Center gives golfers of all ages a chance to have fun, learn the sport, and refine their skills. The Center has a miniature golf course, heated tees, and a teaching team headed by PGA Pro Jay Perkins. The Web site features class schedules, golf tips by Jay, photos of the Center, and more.

Owner Alex Sotir and PGA Golf Professional Jay Perkins have built the golf center into a thriving business, thanks in part to their Web site. To give a feel for the game, we included on the home page the sound of a golf club swing followed by the sound of a ball hitting the cup. A hole in one for the visitor.
Rock Spring Heating and Cooling is one of the area's busiest HVACR contractors. Bob and Gail Spalding take a personal approach to their customers, even sending out thank you notes after service calls. Their Web site reflects their service and philosophy.
HarfordBooks.com is new to our portfolio. This self-promotional site features books on Harford County history written by Bill Bates for Arcadia Publishing.
Since 1996 we have had clients for short-term projects, while others relocated or decided to try another service. We pride ourselves on helping clients make a smooth transition with transfer of their domain names and moving their Web site files, if that is their choice. Careful handling of someone's business assets just makes good business sense. After all, they may come back to us if their new service is not up to the standards we try to set.
